Athon Construction product portfolio is aimed for formulators who work in the construction segment, developing products for care and protection of substrates. Athon works with concentrated products to offer our customers a better value for money. Most materials are silane-siloxane based, which have reactivity with the substrate. Constituted by small molecules, our products are able to penetrate the substrate, offering greater durability and permanence. The effect obtained is repellency and reduction of liquid water absorption, maintaining substrate's ability to breathe and exchange water vapor, with no blockage of the surface. This effect is important to avoid cracks and surface defects that can lead to a reduction in the repellency of the film. Products are simple to apply, versatile, and can be diluted with solvent or water depending on their composition. In addition, they have excellent weather resistance, as not subject to degradation by exposure to UV radiation. In addition to silane-siloxane based products, Athon has in its portfolio special formulations that promote a repellency effect associated with ease of cleaning and durability. Silanes are other class of materials, which can be used in product formulations aimed for special applications.
Athon WR 489 Fluid is a solvent-free silicone concentrate, based on silane and siloxane blend soluble in organic solvents.

It is suitable for imparting water repellency to absorbent, porous and mineral construction materials, such as:

Attention: Product is not suitable for water repellent treatment for plaster.
Suitable solvents for dilution:

•Low odor isoparaffinic hydrocarbons
It is recommended that the solvent used has a boiling range of 140- 190°C.
In cases where the substrate is sensitive to the above solvents, dilution may be done in anhydrous alcohols such as ethanol or isopropanol. The presence of moisture should be avoided so as not to compromise the effectiveness of the product.
Dilutions in the range of 1:10 to 1:15 (product: solvent) are usually employed.

Athon WR 460 Emulsion is a 50% non-volatile emulsion containing water- dilutable silane and siloxane mixture for water-repellent treatment of surfaces.

Athon WR 460 Emulsion is an excellent water repellent for many absorbent mineral substrates such as bricks, natural sandstone and mineral agglomerates.
Not so suitable for dense and less absorbent natural stones, especially limestone, marble and reinforced concrete for bridges and roads (refer to Athon CA 770 Silane and Athon CA 794 Silane for this kind of substrates). Due to its aqueous consistency and storage stability when diluted, the product is ideally suited for factory waterproofing of prefabricated building elements based on clay, cellular concrete, mineral fibers and lightweight aggregates.
Athon WR 460 Emulsion can also serve as a water-repellent additive for water-based paints and plasters.
•Use as a hydrofobic impregnant agent:
Tap water is suitable for the preparation of dilutions of the product for use as a water-repellent facade. Dilutions of Athon WR 460 Emulsion in the ratio of 1:4 to 1:9 are recommended depending on how absorbent the substrate is. Always homogenize the concentrate and the diluted product before use. Apply dilution ready for use preferably by drenching. Two “wet on wet” coats are required to ensure complete coverage. If it starts to rain, stop the treatment and cover the impregnated areas.
•Use as an additive in concrete mixture
Pre-dilute Athon WR 460 Emulsion in a ratio of 1:4 with water. This premix should be added to the feed ratio of 1.0% to 5.0% of the cement content of the mixture. A significant reduction in water absorption can already be achieved at a concentration of 1.0% of the cement. The premix is added simultaneously or immediately after the mixing water – it should never be added together with other additives. The original water/cement ratio of the whole mix should be preserved – so the amount of water used in the premix should be discounted from the total water added. The longer the mixing time, the better the distribution of the product within the system, improving the additive effectiveness.

Athon WR 450 Siliconate is an aqueous solution of potassium methylsiliconate, used in diluted form for the impregnation of building elements to make them repellent to water. As with all siliconates, however, the product can cause a white deposit on the surface of colored building materials, or if used outside of the application guidelines.

Athon WR 300 Powder Repellent is a powder made from silicone highly efficient, redispersible in water, to impart water repellency properties.
•Provides excellent water repellency even at low concentrations
•Does not affect water vapor permeability
•Easy mixing with water during application
Special high quality product to improve the water repellency and water resistance of unfilled precast concrete products or mixtures of mineral building materials, e.g. pre-mixed plasters, joint mortars and powder paints.
Very good water repellency and durability can be achieved with 0.1-0.5% on a dry weight basis in the preparation of plasters, joint mortars and powder coatings.
After adding enough water, the mortars can be mixed by hand or machine. As hand mixing only generates low shear forces, it is best to allow the mixture to mature by letting it stand for 5 minutes and then stirring again.

Athon MH 900 Fluid is a 100% active material based on polymethylhydrogen siloxane.
•Cure resulting in a resistant film
•Curing time and temperature can be controlled
•Effective at low addition rates
•Can be diluted in solvents to improve dispersion
Water repellent treatment for plaster: Athon MH 900 Fluid is added to the water to be mixed with the gypsum powder for plaster preparation. Good water-repellent properties are obtained by adding 0.2 to 0.5% Athon MH 900 Fluid relative to gypsum powder. The amount of water repellent varies according to the type of gypsum and the gypsum-water mixing ratio.
Treatment of Mineral Fillers: In this case, Athon MH 900 Fluid is used alone or, for example, with 3% glycoltetraoctylene titanate. The polymerization takes place at room temperature. It can be accelerated by heating for a few minutes at 150°C.
CAUTION: Do not take near potash or caustic soda or any other alkaline compound. There is a risk of a violent release of highly flammable products. Likewise, do not use in the presence of alcohols (or solvents containing a significant proportion of them) or other components containing reactive hydrogen atoms (SH, OH …), since the release of hydrogen gas may also occur in such cases.

Athon CA 783 Silane is a reactive chemical containing a hydrophobic methyl group and hydrolyzable ethoxy groups linked to the silicon atom.
Silane functionalized with hydrophobic methyl group and hydrolyzable ethoxy groups. It has excellent characteristics of water repellency, rendering inorganic surfaces hydrophobic, and action as adhesion promoter.
